Dr. Sándor Fazekas
Sándor Fazekas was born in Karcag in1963.
He went to primary school in Kenderes, and completed his middle school education in Kisújszállás, graduating from Móricz Zsigmond Secondary Grammar School. He gained a degree (cum laude) from the Faculty of Law at József Attila University, Szeged.
After leaving university he worked as a legal adviser at a publicly-quoted firm: the SZIM engineering works in Karcag. Since 1990 he has been mayor of the town of Karcag.
Since 1989 he has been a member of the local branch of Fidesz in Karcag. Since 1990 he has been a directly elected councillor in Karcag. From 1994 to 1998, and then from 2002 to 2006, he was a county councillor in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County. Between 2002 and 2006 he was leader of the Fidesz county fraction.
From 1998 to 2002 he was a member of parliament, and deputy leader of the Fidesz parliamentary fraction. He is a member of several committees. In the 2006 elections he was returned to Parliament through the regional list for Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County. From 2006 to 2007 he was a member of the Committee for Budgets, Finance and Auditing, and from 2007 until the end of the Parliament he was on the Committee for Human Rights, Minority, Civil and Religious Affairs.
In the 2010 parliamentary elections he won a seat through the regional list for Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County as the joint Fidesz – KDNP candidate. He is vice-chairman of the Fidesz Caucus on Local Government.
He is married, and has two children.
